Dr. Shannon Balfry joined the team at B.C. Centre for Aquatic Health Sciences as an Associate Research Scientist in January 2017. Her current research program takes an innovative approach to managing sea lice on farmed Atlantic salmon. Previous studies have identified kelp and pile perch as cleaner fish that will readily clean the sea lice off infested salmon. She continues this research at the DFO Centre for Aquaculture and Environmental Research to determine the cleaning behavior of these fish and develop the protocols for implementing their use in B.C. salmon farms.
